Our Infant children did not disappoint with their amazing production of ‘Hey Ewe’. They sang beautifully and were captivating, performing with so much confidence. Thank you to our Junior children who were a fantastic audience. All our Infant families have been provided with a complementary DVD of the production. We sincerely look forward to welcoming all our families back next year to enjoy the whole school performing together – as is our Roughlee tradition.
Our children enjoyed performing a wide range of classic Christmas carols and Christmas songs to each other this morning whilst remaining socially distanced. It was a pleasure to watch them perform with such passion and enthusiasm. They are all natural born performers. Well done to the ukulele players!
The children have all made a wooden Christmas decoration for Marsden Grange Care Home, who we visited last year. They have also written a special Christmas message on the back for the residents. This has been a particularly difficult year for everyone, but reading the children’s lovely messages of hope and kindness, and listening to them sing this morning encapsulates the true meaning of Christmas and is indicative of our Christian school. We teach our children that they can be that one person who makes a difference and they do!
The staff and children all enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch on Wednesday. Christmas is the only time in the year when we all dine together, which makes it a very special experience for all involved. A special thank you to Margaret who works tirelessly all year round ensuring our children have access to high quality healthy school meals. The children then enjoyed a very well deserved party, with a visitor from the North Pole bearing gifts.
Mr Stephenson, our local MP, joined us this morning for our Celebration Assembly. He presented Maria (thank you Holly for accepting Maria’s award on her behalf) and Scarlett with a £10.00 book token for their highly commendable Christmas card entries to his annual competition. He also presented Esme with £50.00 worth of prizes, as her entry was judged 2nd place overall out of all the Pendle entries – well done Esme!
It was lovely to see all the children in their Christmas jumpers today in support of ‘Save the Children’. The school looked incredibly festive and we raised a lot of money for the children’s charity.
On Monday the children explored the significance of our Christian school vision, ethos and motto. They also explored our focused Christian Values for this academic year, through a variety of learning styles; from being a bible explorer/detective to art & drama, etc. This was an extremely enjoyable and powerful day for all involved, as we explored and reflected upon how our distinctive Christian ethos relates to our lives both inside and outside of school.
Stephen from ‘Life Education’ visited school and taught the children a variety of life skills, ranging from the importance of a healthy body and mind to the dangers of medicines, alcohol, drugs and smoking – focusing on the importance of making good life choices. This links to our school Christian motto – Therefore, Choose. The children’s highlight was of course meeting Harold the Giraffe. Stephen commented on the impeccable behaviour and outstanding enthusiasm for learning our children have.
