Unfortunately, the week did not begin as we expected with the school having to close due to the road works. As you can see from the photographs below, United Utilities did not leave school any safe means of access. The planned road works were due to take place over the weekend, however United Utilities failed to commence the works on Saturday 15th May 2021, as scheduled. They also failed to inform school of the planned works.
School apologises on behalf of United Utilities for the disruption and inconvenience caused. The safety and welfare of our children and whole school community is of our upmost priority and unfortunately there was no safe possible means of gaining access to the school for children, staff or school meals. There was also no means of access for emergency vehicles, therefore it was not safe for school to open. As we are all acutely aware, our children have missed so much education this year due to the pandemic and to minimise the detrimental effects of the close, we have decided to utilise the forced closure as our planned INSET Day on Monday 21st June 2021. School will therefore be open as normal on Monday 21st June 2021. If you have already booked a holiday or planned events on this day, please contact school before half-term.
On Wednesday, the children celebrated WHO Hand Hygiene Day. Throughout the day the children explored the importance of good effective hand hygiene – carrying out lots of fun and exciting investigations into just how easily germs and bacteria can spread from their hands onto surfaces, food, etc. The children were amazed at the need to thoroughly wash their hands with soap for over 20 seconds to remove all the dirt and bacteria.
