  • Rotakids Dictionary Challenge

    Fri 25 Nov 2022

Kathy, from Padiham Rotary, joined us in school today for our Celebration Assembly. Whilst in school, she thanked all our Junior children for participating in their Rotakids Dictionary Challenge. Kathy was very impressed with the high standard of entries this year. Anaiya was announced as our overall winner and was presented with a fabulous prize. Kathy was also very pleased to announce that Anaiya had not only won our school challenge, but was the overall Pendle Champion, beating children from 11 other local schools, who participated within the challenge. Anaiya was presented with a champion’s trophy and our school name was engraved on the Rotakids Champions Shield. Congratulations Anaiya and well done to all those children who participated in the challenge.

The children and staff had a fabulous day yesterday at Liverpool Cathedral. They were fascinated by the building, as they compared it to our church – identifying similarities and differences. They also thoroughly enjoyed their workshops – especially making their beautiful stained glass windows. The children’s behaviour and enthusiasm was exemplary and was commented on by several staff from the Cathedral.

  • Children in Need

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

School was awash with colour today, as the children wore their spots with pride, in aid of Children in Need. They all looked superb! Thank you for all your support in creating such wonderful outfits. Well done to all the winners of our design your own spotty outfit. Thank you for your continued support and donations, we raised a ‘spotacular’ £63.43. This money will go directly to Children in Need in order to help those children less fortunate than ourselves.

  • Remembrance Day

    Fri 11 Nov 2022

The children’s behaviour was impeccable this morning, as the whole school visited the Roughlee War Memorial. Each class presented a hand-made wreath and in class, they made poems, pictures and prayers. The children also observed the one minutes silence and reflected upon the sacrifices others have made for us. The staff were incredibly proud of the children – well done.

  • Life Education

    Thu 10 Nov 2022

Harold the Giraffe and Emma visited school yesterday. The children explored a variety of life skills, ranging from the importance of a healthy body and mind, to the dangers of medicines, drugs and smoking – focusing on the importance of making good life choices. This links to our school Christian motto – Therefore, Choose. The children’s highlight was of course meeting Harold the Giraffe. Emma commented on the children’s excellent behaviour, knowledge and enthusiasm. The children will be able to apply their knowledge in their science topics to describe the digestive and respiratory systems.

  • Muslim Workshop

    Fri 04 Nov 2022

On Wednesday, Imran from Muslim Learner Services visited school and delivered age appropriate workshops to all the children. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about various aspects of Islam and identifying the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity. This was a very enjoyable and informative afternoon, with Imran commenting on the children’s wonderful behaviour, enthusiasm for learning and respect for different people’s faith and belief’s.

  • Junior Trip to London

    Fri 04 Nov 2022

The children were phenomenal during our wonderful trip to London on the final day of last half-term. They conducted themselves admirably and were a pleasure to take. The children are also a part of our history and can say they were at the Houses of Parliament when the Prime Minister announced her resignation. Whilst on the trip, the children explored the many iconic landmarks in London and whilst at Parliament, they participated in a range of activities from questioning an MP, to learning about the different Houses in Parliament (House of Lords and House of Commons) and how bills, acts and laws are made.

Thank you to all the parents for your support and the staff for organising such an amazing experience for the children – we are very fortunate here at Roughlee to have such dedicated and supportive families and staff, who constantly go above and beyond to provide the very best for our children.
