Infants

Welcome to our class page!

This page is for our Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 children who make up the infants class.  We will be putting regular updates on here showing what the children are doing throughout the year.

Baptism

In RE we have been learning about belonging and being baptised.  The children were thrilled that Rev Julie came in to baptise our doll.  She talked about the symbols and even brought in a table font.

Reception - Maths

Our Reception children have been exploring 3D shapes and what they can do.  They have named them, matched shapes to names, then looked for them in the classroom.

They have also been learning about lengths.  In pairs, they drew around each others foot, then used these to measure lots of things in the class.

Gymnastics

The children thoroughly enjoyed their first gymnastics session of the year at the BEST centre.  The infants were developing their moving and balancing skills on different beams.  They travelled forwards and backwards, used their arms to balance and jumped off safely.

As part of our topic we went on a walk around the local area.  Children were looking for human and physical features, some were harder to decide upon than others.  The children were also looking for any plants and trees they knew, and were deciding whether the trees were evergreen or deciduous.  It was a very interesting walk and the children saw some things they had never seen before!

Exploring unusual fruit and vegetables

A parent very kindly brought in lots of exotic and unusual fruit and vegetables from around the world for the children to taste.  The children thoroughly enjoyed looking at, feeling, smelling and tasting these.  They then looked at where in the world they had come from on a world map.  well done to the children, who were very adventurous and discovered a new food that they enjoyed.

Year 1 children have been learning about ordinal numbers.  They raced cars to see which would go the farthest, then worked out what position their car had come.  They had great fun talking about which car they chose and why as well as the racing and positioning.
What a busy half term we have had in school.  There continue to be changes to the classroom and the outdoor environment. The children have had lots of fun exploring and learning.

The children had a super time doing multi skills with the Schools Sport Partnership.  They enjoyed new experiences which they hope to bring back to do in school.  The children were wonderfully behaved and showed great sportsmanship.  They should be very proud of themselves!

Reading and counting at home

Year 1 and 2 parents, we ask that you hear your child read a little every day and talk to them about the book.

Reception children will have a book with no words that they can tell a story about. They will also have sound cards to bring home. Please encourage them to say the sounds the letters make. They can also be used to make simple words with. If you would like more information about these please speak to us.

All children are encouraged to count objects around them and look at numbers they may see in their environment.

'Wow' moments!

Reception children have brought home letters about 'wow' moments. Please feel free to share anything your child has done that they or you are proud of, no matter how small it seems, on the slips sent home. If you would like more slips they are located on the window inside the classroom door.

Spellings and homework

Year 1 and 2 children will bring spellings home each Monday and the will be tested on these each Friday. Please try to go through these with your child throughout the week.

Homework is sent each Friday and is due in the following Monday. If your child is struggling with their homework please let us know.
