Welcome to our class page! 

 

This page is for our Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 children who make up the infants class.  We will be putting regular updates on here showing what the children are doing throughout the year.  

Pendle Sculpture Trail

 

As we have been learning about sculptures and the history of local events, we went on a trip to the Pendle Sculpture Trail.  The children had a great time exploring the vast array of sculptures in the woods and even enjoyed walking up the steep hill.  Please ask your child what their favourite sculpture was.

Red Nose Day

The children looked great sporting their noses for Red Nose Day.  No rare or ultra rare for us though!

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day by coming to school dressed as a book character.  The children had put in lots of effort and looked amazing.  They also brought in the book their character from or a favourite book.  Stories were shared throughout the day and the children did activities around books and characters.

Spring Term 2 - overviews of the term

Travelling Ted's Adventures

We have been learning all about the local area and looked at the types of houses that are in the village and the types of houses the children live in.

The children were then set the task of designing and making a suitable home for Travelling Ted that would be weather proof.

Then came the exciting part, we tested the houses to see if they would withstand the wind and rain.  Watch the videos to see what happened!

Fabulous Colours!

The children have been learning about different artists, primary and secondary colours.  They have explored mixing paints to create their own colours.  Then using the colours to create their own pictures in the style of different artists.

The children had great fun exploring compass directions and following a set of instructions. They came up with some great ways of remembering the compass points.

Reception children have been ordering Numicon shapes from 1 to 10.

The children made collage poppies for Remembrance Day. They tore paper to create their own and more for a display poster in school.

In DT, the children designed and made their own counting bunting. They had to consider what was going on it, the layout, the colours. Then use different techniques to fasten the materials together. It is now proudly displayed in the classroom.

The children had a fabulous time learning about science through football when Soccer Academy came in to school. They had a quiz in class and then played football outside. There looks to be some real talent here.

Roald Dahl Day

The children had lots of fun celebrating Roald Dahl day.  They we invited to dress up as one of his book characters and looked fabulous.  They also took part in Roald Dahl maths, reading, word searches and enjoyed some of his shorter stories and rhymes.

Reading and counting at home

 

Year 1 and 2 parents, we ask that you hear your child read a little every day and talk to them about the book.

 

Reception children will have a book with no words that they can tell a story about. They will also have sound cards to bring home. Please encourage them to say the sounds the letters make. They can also be used to make simple words with. If you would like more information about these please speak to us.

 

All children are encouraged to count objects around them and look at numbers they may see in their environment.

'Wow' moments!

 

Reception children have brought home letters about 'wow' moments. Please feel free to share anything your child has done that they or you are proud of, no matter how small it seems, on the slips sent home. If you would like more slips they are located on the window inside the classroom door.

Spellings and homework

 

Year 1 and 2 children will bring spellings home each Monday and the will be tested on these each Friday. Please try to go through these with your child throughout the week.

 

Homework is sent each Friday and is due in the following Monday. If your child is struggling with their homework please let us know.
