It was pleasing to see the children share their many successes with family and friends in church this morning – Thank you to all those who were able to join us for our Awards service. It was wonderful to see the wide range of achievements being acknowledged this morning (sports, academic progress, creativity, courtesy, music, determination, perseverance, behaviour, outstanding team spirit and many more).
The end of term is an exciting time, albeit with a little sadness, as our Year 6 children leave us to embark upon the next stage of their educational journey. Staff and Governors would like to offer them our best wishes for their future endeavours and thank them for contributing to the life and success of our school; we are extremely proud of them and I am certain they will continue to go from strength to strength. I hope they feel that they can look forward to the challenges of life to come with confidence, remembering the many things they have learnt with us here at Roughlee. It was clearly evident from their fond memories in church this morning that they will look back on their time here with happiness.
The children have enjoyed a fabulous day of gymnastics at The BEST Centre. Thank you to Kim and Emily, our coaches, who were superb with the children. Along with having a lot of fun, the children have also covered the gymnastic elements of their PE curriculum, building upon their skills and knowledge.
Our Infant children, accompanied by their trusty teddies, enjoyed a lovely afternoon at Bishop Philip’s house. They enjoyed a traditional ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ and then some traditional outdoor/garden games. Their afternoon concluded with Bishop Philip sharing a story. The children’s behaviour and manners were exemplary. A special thank you to Bishop Philip for his great hospitality.
Our Junior children had a wonderful, albeit wet, day at Whitehough, enjoying a vast range of physical activities including Jacob’s ladder, den building, survival skills, obstacle course and team building games. It was incredibly pleasing to see the encouragement and support our children gave each other. The manner in which the children conducted themselves and tackled the activities was outstanding – Well Done Key Stage 2!
The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves during Sports Day, participating in a wide range of sporting events and races. Well done to St George’s who triumphed victorious overall, but also a very well done to all the children for their excellent behaviour and sportsmanship. Thank you to all those who came along to support the children; I’m certain you will agree it was a great morning enjoyed by all. A special mention to Hishaam, who sang beautifully during his solo – Well Done Hishaam!
Deb, Sam and David from GoVelo have taught all our Junior children Level 1 of the ‘Bikeability’ programme, with many of them also achieving Level 2. School is extremely proud of all the children who participated, especially those who have learnt to ride a bike this week – well done! The children have learnt about road safety and developed their balance, co-ordination, confidence and self-awareness through practical tuition. Bikeability builds on the children’s prior learning from the ‘RightStart’ programme they completed whilst in the Infants. A huge thank you to Deb, Sam and David who made this a wonderful experience for the children.
