In PE this half term, we've been focusing on Netball. We have practised 3 different passes (chest, bounce and shoulder). We have practised our pivoting footwork and we've played some games to test our skills.
Poetry WB 13th October 2025: Macavity the Mystery Cat
This week in Year 5 and 6 we have explored the poem 'Macavity: The Mystery Cat' by T S Eliot. We investigated the rich vocabulary before looking in detail at Macavity's character, and then had a go at creating a short read aloud performance of the poem. Listen below to hear some of our recordings of the poem...
In PSHE this week, we learnt about collaboration. In teams, we collaborated to build the highest tower using 6 pieces of paper, cellotape and scissors. Prizes were awarded for the tallest tower and for the children that worked best as a team. Well done Year 5 and 6!
Reading for Pleasure
At our recent 'Stay and Read' sessions for children and parents, we began writing a reading 'Wish List', based on recommendations from our friends as well as the experts! If you're looking for inspiration for your next read, you can access the 'Top 100 Books to read before you leave Primary School' list using this link:

Welcome to Upper Key Stage 2, the home of Year 5 and 6!
We have a mixed age class and pupils are taught by Mrs Roberts.
📚Please read below for key information about our class. This page will be updated throughout each term, including photographs and information about the topics and skills your pupils are learning.

📰Our school newsletter also contains important information about upcoming events and opportunities for pupils, so please do keep up to date and read it!
Homework
Children will receive English and Maths homework every Friday, as well as a weekly spelling sheet. This is to be completed for the following Monday. Homework is always based on work children have been doing in school and set to suit their abilities. If something is sent home that a pupil needs more help with, please let us know - we are always happy to help!
Reading
The most important things pupils should do at home every day is to read! We have spoken in class about the power and benefits of regular daily reading - whether that's before bed, in the car on the way to school or just sitting quietly with a good book at the weekend. Pupils all have reading books which are monitored and changed upon completion. The time frame in which this happens will vary as reading books naturally get longer as pupils' reading ability develops with their age.
In school, pupils are taught the skills needed for effective comprehension as well as vocabulary through regular 'Guided Reading' sessions. The teacher will listen to pupils read individually and out loud, but will also ask pupils to read silently and ask questions about the text following a discussion.
We also read our class novel at the end of the day before dismissal. This is something we look forward to and is one of our favourite parts of the day!
ActivLearn
Sometimes we use resources, both paper and digital, from Pearson's ActivLearn platform. Pupils can access their own ActivLearn page via the link below:
https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0
All pupils have a log in for this which is in the following format:
Example name: Joe Bloggs. Format: firstname all lowercase followed by first letter of surname
Example username: joeb
Example password: joeb
PE and Tracksuits
PE takes place on Thursdays this term. Please send pupils into school wearing their tracksuits and appropriate footwear each Thursday.
Year 6 and SATs
In May 2026, our Year 6 pupils will complete several national tests in grammar, spelling, reading and maths. Pupils will be well-prepared for these tests in school but if you would like to support your child further at home and develop their confidence, the following links and websites may be useful:
